Scenario
I am the owner of a company that manufactures X products. Over the years, I've noticed that my company is spending more money replicating and repeating things that lead to an unnecessary waste of productivity.
I would like to give my employees access to electronic versions of production estimates and inventory, and improve communication and accountability between by different manufacturing locations and our products dealership network.
Is it possible that our dealer can place their orders for the products online?. If you can automate these features for me, it will help us to a great extent, so that the person who will manage this portal doesn't have to worry too much about updating content often.

A corporate portal (intranet and extranet) would put all the information within your organization in one central location and provide easy access to all your employees. They would know where to find the information that they are looking for. They would also be able to add in knowledge that they acquire and share it with others in the organization.

The portal can implement a general area for all employees and a specific area for each employee, department. A 'portal administrator' will control the general area. The respective owners will control the specific areas. The owner of an area will be able to delegate control to specific functions on his area to other employees.
Each of your employees will be given a user ID and a password to access the portal and his specific area. Authenticated users with different access privileges will only be allowed to enter this system. Using this, your employee could access the portal both from within the company's network and from the Internet.
One of the features that you asked for is to enable your dealers to place orders online. One way this could be implemented is by creating a Purchase Order Tool in the portal where dealers would be given access to place orders using the product catalog. The dealers can from thereon view the status of their order and delivery schedules.
